Perton wins CPRE Environmental Award
Congratulations to Perton, the winners of CPRE Staffordshire’s Environmental Award in the 2024 Best Kept Village Community competition.
We’re delighted to announce the South Staffordshire village of Perton as the winner of our Environmental Award (formerly known as the Sustainable and Green Initiatives Award). This was presented by trustee Steve Hopkins at the Community Foundation’s Best Kept Village Community awards evening on 23rd October.
The Wild about Perton community group has planted some 1500 trees across Perton playing fields in conjunction with Forest of Mercia Trees for Climate Project. The project also included a new accessible footpath alongside the trees to improve opportunities for exercise.
Perton has also installed solar panels at the Civic Centre, and the church has installed heat pumps to help with their sustainability and energy efficiency. The village is also developing a Green Spaces Management Plan in partnership with South Staffordshire Council, Perton Parish Council and Wild about Perton.
New for 2025 – Living Countryside Awards
This year, we’re sponsoring the Living Countryside Awards in the Best Kept Village Community competition:
Inspiring Groups
This award recognises groups leading on environmental or countryside issues. This could include local community campaign groups fighting for better services and facilities in their area, groups offering advice to residents on matters such as planning, groups maintaining green spaces or carrying out biodiversity projects, litter-picking groups, or community transport groups.
Trailblazer Award
This award would recognise individuals who are going the extra mile to protect their local countryside. They could be people who are providing significant contributions to projects, or working to maintain parks, green spaces or local facilities. Individuals might be actively involved in developing activities and schemes in their community to make it a better place in which to live, work or go to school.
Made in Rural Staffordshire Award
This category celebrates local businesses who provide local produce, alcohol, crafts and everything in between, who add value to our local economy and make the county so unique and varied.
Countryside on Camera Award (all ages)
We encourage everyone to submit their best photo of the Staffordshire countryside.
